European Inspired Wedding Styled Shoot in the Heart of Central Vancouver Island, Coombs, British Columbia

Vancouver Island’s wedding scene takes a lot of inspiration from its’ rugged coastal landscape - the wild sea, rocky beaches, dense green rainforest, and foggy overcast that our environment is most known for. Creating and styling an event with an opposite aesthetic to our surroundings felt like a breath of fresh air.

Still taking inspiration from our location, I let the delicate and vintage design of Cuckoo’s restaurant dictate the overall look. Soft, natural, classic, and artistic were the feelings we wanted to inject into every piece of this stylized shoot. Bringing in Vanessa Lust Photography was the perfect fit to create that light and airy likeness we were after.

The jumping off point for the florals was the cherry blossom trees located on the pathway leading up toward the building. I knew a soft blush palette would compliment and blend in well with the environment. Always approaching floral design the way a painter paints a painting, I decide on an overall colour palette, but then inject highlights and shadows. Creamy whites add air and visual lightness to the arrangements, while deep plums provide depth and anchor each piece. Pops of colours that link to the veining found in some of the blush flowers create visual interest and makes each arrangement enjoyable to rest your eyes on. My favourite is the earthy yellow combo rose found at the lower front of the bridal bouquet.

Have a look below to see how everything came together to create a cohesive look and style.

The stone and building design makes it feel as if you’ve just stepped onto a beautiful French or Italian property.

Handmade, unique, and customizable jewelry by Kirsten Lara Jewelry. These delicate teardrop moonstone earrings were the perfect compliment to this overtly feminine and romantic gown from The White Peony bridal boutique. Both of these women-run businesses are located in Victoria, BC.

Linens from Faire la Fete, Rentals from Darling Vintage Event Rentals, and handthrown plates by Buttata Ceramics allowed us to create a natural and welcoming tablescape. The touches of dark wood bowls and chairs contribute a relaxing element to a more luxurious and feminine look. Copper place settings warm up the predominantly neutral table design while visually linking back to the wood tones.
